Prefab houses are in the news recently, but not with a good twist to the story.
Last year’s floods hit Manitoba hard, along Lake Manitoba. In response to the severe flooding and damage, Manitoba Housing promised to purchase 16 prefabricated houses worth $3 million for local residents.
They were to be assembled at Rural Municipality of St. Laurent. Though a total of 16 houses were promised, thus far, only 6 have been built. This has proven to be a problem.
As would be expected, some of the area’s residents are rather perturbed at how things have turned out. Unfortunately, there is not much that they can do. They are essentially at the mercy of Rural Municipality. Some people have given up and have found their own housing. Others are still holding out.
